This DARKROOM was very intimate, both for the participants and for me. With no audience space, I was alone behind my curtain in a small dark corner of the pub, interacting with naked or semi-naked strangers, caressing their bodies with my light sources - it felt quite intense at times! Some people preferred the intimacy and were more confident to come forward and strip off in such a private space.
“So after seeing this ‘display’ or performance at Act Art and loving the idea (while being so afraid to do it so publicly) I finally got up the courage to do it at 15 minute factory – the privacy really appealed to me because of the freedom it offered… well I though was more about me doing it than people seeing it. It was really liberating and I’m glad I got a chance! (Ruth)
